But I’m not sure they’re really making a valid point. I mean... upgrades to a gun, by definition, do make it more deadly. That’s not to say they should all be disallowed or anything, but it really pisses me off when gun groups refuse to acknowledge that these things are literally designed to make killing stuff easier. I’m all for a good round of target shooting, but I’m not going to pretend that the gun I’m using is totally harmless. (like a Fiat)

Doesnt matter what theyre designed for. In the end, you can do just as much damage with either.

A 4000 lb hunk of steel and glass coming at you 70mph, or .5 ounce piece of lead coming at you at 1200 fps. Both will hurt a little.

I have seen their 10/22 pistol with a bipod, and its just weird.

No, the premise of their point makes no sense. A 10/22 is specifically designed to kill (small) things and whatever the fuck that gun is, is also designed to kill things . A FIAT is designed to drive you places. A tank is designed to kill (large and heavy) things. Stuff like this makes gun owners look like morons. I’m a gun owner, btw, and own much scarier looking things than a 10/22 with a “tactical” stock.

Not all upgrades to a car make it faster/deadlier. Many make them safer. Better handling, better brakes, etc. The similar mods to a gun just make it easier to kill things.

Except, the purpose of cars is not to hit things. If it is used for that purpose, it will injure/kill the driver along with the target. Even if the target is a school bus, thats just 1 bus.

On the other hand, the purpose of guns is to hit multiple things, without ruining the gun. It can be re-used as many times to hit as many things as possible and a lot of upgrades make this more efficient and/or more deadly.

Also, a person with a car rarely ever uses it intentionally to kill/injure people, as compared to the frequent use of guns for this purpose. So car owners aren’t subject to the same scrutiny about their intent to buy 5 cars (F-Type R Coupe, Land Cruiser, Ariel Atom, RS7, Taco TRD - if it were me) and nitrous kits.

So the analogy does not carry over in that sense.
